in Emeritus Professor of Law at Indiana University Maurer School of Law and
the Mitchell Willoughby Professor of Law at University of South Carolina S

Brown was one of the original scholars who met in Madison\, Wisconsin in 1
989 to develop Critical Race Theory.

This past year\, CRT has become
a focal point\, used to criticize public education and other diversity\, eq
uity and inclusion initiatives. Often misrepresented\, it has been used to
foster division in the public arena\, particularly around its use in school
s and more recently\, medical education. Professor Brown will discuss how C
RT was conceptualized by original theorists and scholars\, the context for
the need of the framework\, and the underlying theories and thought behind
CRT. Prof. Brown is still currently writing about legal arguments regarding
race and education\, and is working on pieces that examine the legal chall
enges to anti-CRT legislation.

The talk is expected to run for approx
