Rachelle D. Smith, PhD, LPC

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Leader

A native of St. Louis, Rachelle D. Smith, PhD, LPC, holds a doctorate in counselor education and supervision from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.  Her clinical experience and research emphasizes the integration of social justice counseling when providing services to underrepresented minorities.

Throughout her career, Dr. Smith has partnered with various organizations throughout the St. Louis community to provide numerous interventions for diverse populations. She is a sought-after presenter on social justice and multicultural competence at the regional and national levels.

Prior to joining Washington University, she most recently served as a counselor and the Coordinator of Diversity Services and Community Outreach for Saint Louis University. She has also served as a mental health counselor to underrepresented communities, the director and instructor of the Human Services and Addictions Studies program at St. Louis Community College – Meramec, an administrator of the GEAR-UP grant for the University of Missouri – St. Louis, and a special education teacher for St. Louis City Public Schools.

Dr. Smith views her new role as a diversity and inclusion leader at Washington University School of Medicine as an opportunity to effect change both in the lives of members of the Washington University community and St. Louis community.

She believes the impact of this institution in the St. Louis area is infinite and she is honored to have the privilege to continue her work as an advocate for social change at Washington University.
