Dying of Whiteness Book Discussion Registration and Book Order Form

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is leading a discussion of physician Jonathan M. Metzl's book Dying of Whiteness: How the Politics of Racial Resentment Is Killing America's Heartland.

In the book Dr. Metzl builds the case that whiteness has become a risk factor for various health outcomes, fueled by politics designed to stoke racial resentment. The book is broken into three sections dedicated to a specific example from three different states. Missouri's history of gun legislation and the impact of firearm access on suicide rates, Tennessee's history with health care access, and Kansas's history with school programs and social services are researched and analyzed using epidemiological data and group interview. We will lead independent discussions of each section to maximize participation opportunities. This registration will include you in the discussion for the last section of the book - Kansas Government Programs.

We have limited copies of the book; please contact Valerie Joyner or use the form below to indicate whether you would like the book shipped to your home or campus address.

Feel free to register for any/all discussions.
