Celebrating Native American Heritage Month – Cahokia: America’s First Megacity

11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
FLTC Room #303 (Farrell Learning and Teaching Center)

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a screening and discussion of the 12-minute PBS documentary, “What Happened to America’s First Megacity?” The film explores the history of Cahokia, one of the largest pre-contact cities in the world, and highlights the remarkable achievements of the Mississippian people and how the Osage Nation continues that legacy. It also introduces the scientific research and geophysical surveying used to better understand the rise and decline of this complex civilization.

This event offers an opportunity to deepen your appreciation for this amazing site right in our backyard and the reason St. Louis is known as “Mound City!” Join us as we recognize Cahokia’s historical significance, honor Indigenous heritage, and engage in thoughtful discussion about the importance of knowing this history today. Lunch will be provided if you register by November 6th! All are welcome!
