About Foundations of Inclusive Excellence

This series of four one-hour training sessions introduces participants to the foundations of Inclusive Excellence and creating a supportive culture.

Employees are welcome to attend open sessions offered every other month. In addition, departments, programs and other business units may request group training.

The design of the Foundations Series is informed by a culture change framework and aims to build on the learner’s awareness, understanding and skills for fostering an inclusive culture and climate.

Awareness: Provides shared language for talking about diversity, equity and inclusion to support positive culture change. We start here because language is among the most powerful ways in which we create and learn culture.

Understanding: To foster belonging on an individual level we must recognize, understand and mitigate our biases, both explicit and implicit, in an on-going way.

Commitment: Once we have this awareness and understanding, we can begin building skills for speaking up when we experience or witness bias in our workplace environments.

Action: The work of creating an inclusive workplace is on-going and takes intentional action. We must continue to be curious to learn from those around us and practice applying the skills we learn to support a positive workplace and educational environment.
