As we embark on the Spring semester, we are excited to invite you to participate in our book club. Last year, we dedicated to exploring and discussing literature that aligns with the value of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a whole person. In order to offer a diversity of content and topics, we polled community members on topics of interest and a variety of media options (e.g., books, documentary film, etc.).
This year’s book/film club will focus on “Women’s Rights in the United States” utilizing documentary film as the media type. The book/film club will meet monthly, and participants can expect to engage in monthly facilitated discussions on various documentary films. Participants will be offered a viewing of the film each month, on-campus.
At this kickoff meeting, we will discuss the films we will be exploring, and we will provide information about the book club set up. We will also discuss follow-up dates for meeting.
The book club will focus on the following films primarily:
- “She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry” (2014)
- “9to5:The Story of A Movement” (2020)
- “RBG” (2018)
- “The Janes” (2022)
- “The Post Roe Baby Boom: Inside Mississippi’s Maternal Health Crisis” (2023)
