WashU Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS)

WashU Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS) attended the Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) in Orlando, Florida from April 13-17, 2022 sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Seven (MAPS) members had the chance to network with nearly 2,000 minority physicians, residents, med students, pre-med students, and medical programs. Incredibly inspired by the speakers and workshops including Dr. Cameron Webb, the Senior Policy Advisor for Covid-19 Equity in the White House.

At the conference, the WashU MAPS chapter and members were able to win a multitude of awards:

·         Chapter of the year for the Midwestern Region

·         Member of the year for the Midwestern Region

·         1st place in the undergraduate poster session

·         2 scholarships for our members

·         1 of our members was elected as the Premedical Representative for the Midwestern Region

We were able to introduce ourselves to medical school admissions officers, determine our best fit, and hopefully get our feet in the door for an interview.

WashU Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) is an organization vested in ensuring that there is equal representation in the healthcare professions. Throughout the academic year we host a variety of events, including panels of medical students & healthcare professionals, round table discussions on important topics & issues in healthcare, community service events, and professional workshops. In addition to our events we help students find resources for pre-medical classes, MCAT preparation, finding summer & gap year opportunities, and more.
